Technology, especially media related technology, has amplified what every person on this planet knows by their own experience and observation–the world we all occupy is incredibly broken.
And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that people are the primary cause of the world’s brokenness and chaos.
If you have access to any type of media technology, then like me, there are probably times when you feel like your senses are being assaulted by the horrifying stories of what people actually do to one another, either directly or indirectly.
It’s my conviction that any person that is bothered by and/or cares about the condition of our world will eventually expend some mental energy trying to figure out why things are in the condition they are.
Things clearly aren’t the way they should be–what explains this reality?
More importantly, even if a plausible explanation for the reality of how things are is discovered and is accurate, unless we’re completely self-absorbed, we will likely expend even more mental energy trying to find a solution.
Put simply, although almost everyone recognizes that the ship of humanity may actually be listing to a degree that we’ve never seen before, it isn’t enough to know WHY it’s listing.
Knowing WHY it’s listing is only half the battle.
Knowing WHAT needs to be done to begin righting the ship may be even more important.
But the order matters.
Based on my life experience, work experience, and ministry experience, it’s impossible to determine HOW to fix something effectively if you haven’t already determined WHY it’s broken in the first place.
With all of the above as the back drop, in my next few posts, I’m going to zero in on one specific example of the brokenness of our world that I continually hear American Christians comment on and more often than not, complain about……IMMIGRATION!
I’m going to delve into the reality of IMMIGRATION, viewing it through the “reality-lens” that I view all things through–the Bible.
If the Bible is truly the self-revelation of the Creator of all things and the story of His interaction with what/whom He has created, then I believe it’s reasonable to expect to find an explanation for:
–The ethnic, linguistic, and cultural diversity that composes mankind.
–Why the division and strife between people of different ethnicities, languages, cultures, and nationalities exists.
–What His original and ultimate purposes are for that diversity.
–And what His solution is for mending the brokenness that mankind has brought upon themselves.
My conviction is that when we discover His explanation for these things, our personal views on the subject of immigration in all of its forms may need to be adjusted.
Until next time….ponder this:
Psalm 86:9 All the ethnic groups you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify Your name.
